Valerian is often found as an ingredient for dogs to promote relaxation during thunderstorms, travel, etc. I've never heard of it used in any feline preparation. I would check with your vet since animals often love the taste of things that are bad for them.

I have a book on natural remedies for cats and the only mention of valerian root is under seizures. Maria Glinski, DVM states that it can be used for mild seizures. She states that they may get sleepy if you use it.

It doesn't sound like it should be used like catnip. Herbs are very touchy for use with cats. Many of them are toxic to the cat.

Most likely not.
1) Valerian is what Valium is made from so it would be very easy for the cat to overdose.
2) Best to let cat stick to catnip or other aromatic herbs to play & relax

My cats goes crazy when he smells it too. I don't know what it wil do to a cat so I'd suggest not giving it to your kitty.
