Labor Day is a civic holiday in the US, much like Independence Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, etc. Many faiths also celebrate religious holidays which are a completely different thing.

since i am a teacher and i get to lay around the house today. it is a holiday for me that i am enjoying. later on when i eat some crabs that will be the icing on the cake!
