Since she is four, you need to know that punishments need to be immediate. For instance, we can give our 11 year old early bedtime if he gets in trouble in the afternoon, but that doesn't work for the four year old, who has no concept of time.

Acceptable punishments could be time out, no more TV for that day, take away a favorite toy, or take away another priveledge, like no snack (such as candy or cookies) that day, etc.

Do NOT hit your child. It is not effective. It only builds resentment and makes your child afraid of you. You also teach your child to take our thier rage by becoming violent. Also, if you leave a mark on your child, either on purpose or by accident, you could have to face legal problems if someone such as a daycare provider were to see it.

Finally, LOVE your child. Your child is 4 and is going to push limits because that's what they are meant to do in that stage of development. It is perfectly normal. If you are always yelling or upset at your child, they are going to keep doing things to get your attention in search of some love. Hugs, kisses, and words of encouragement will go a LONG way.

words hurt more than actions.........so discipline her by changing your tone in you voice when you dont like what she's doing....spanking is not bad but there are times to do it and times not to........you cant just raise a child without spanking....they turn all rebelious and forget who the authority is when they grow old...and they will keep doing the same mistake over and over again.......making them know who the authority is is good but dont do it to the point they get scared of you

you shouldn't have to spank her at all...if she misbehaves explain what she is doing and why it is bad (in a calm voice) then tell her if she does it again you will take a favorite toy/ not allow her any treats or whatever will work best, you know your own daughter, but you must carry through the threat and be consistent.

put her in special time out chair for 4 minutes. When the four minutes are up...ask her why she was in the chair and tell her she needs to apologize

If she gets out of the chair before 4 minutes are up explain to her that that is unacceptable...and make her do it again.

TIME OUT! and take away thing that she enjoys , TV, toys

let the time out be 4 mins according to her age, and make sure she understands why she is in time out.

I think at four years old mine learned what the word "restriction" means. She didn't like that too well. I taught her that the same way I learned it. Telling my parents it didn't hurt anymore. But, I found out it was pretty effective.
