I have lost over 40 pounds following this advice:

REMOVING all sodas and sugared juices from my diet and drinking only home brewed green tea

Learning what the proper portions are for the foods that I eat, and eating SLOWLY, giving my body enough time to tell me it has had enough.

Removing fats from my diet, for the most part. There are still days I eat cake and cookies, but no more or less than I did before I lost the weight. I did remove cooking oil and margarine, using non stick sprays and low fat margarine alternative sprays. I removed more MEAT from my diet, taking the opportunity to try some wonderful meatless and lower calorie dishes.

As far as exercise is concerned.... weight loss is not totally dependent on it and to this day I have not done any form of exercise that would make me lose weight. I DO walk my dog everyday, but I have always done that. I think I read somewhere that exercise is only 25% of the weight loss.

(AND BTW, I have been able to either maintain or lose weight over the last YEAR following my method (I had a fairly long plateau). You don't have to pay someone half a paycheck to lose weight... just educate yourself and use common sense.

I am on the South Beach Diet and have lost 23 pounds in 5 weeks. I like it a lot, but you have to be prepared for give up sugar products as well as bread and rice, and pasta for at least two weeks while you ease into the program. I love it. The best diet I have ever been on, and I have been a career dieter!!

I had great success with Weight Watchers, but that was years ago. I recently had luck with the Curves plan. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to keep all food groups in your diet, limit fats and foods high in fat. Good luck.

Start by disciplining yourself. Limit your intake of food. Do not pile it on your plate. You will feel defeated every time. Your eyes ARE bigger than your stomach when it comes to eating. Eat plenty of vegetables, very little meat, lots of fruit, and drink PLENTY of water. It works for me. I've been doing it for years. Hope I was some help.
P.S. And don't forget to exercise.
