Well, conservatives are naturally fearful, and the Republican Party skillfully stirs up paranoia. Fact is, fear tends to turn off the higher functions of the brain, which makes it easier for the ruling Administration to foist a lot of nonsensical policies on them.
But it goes beyond that. Getting conservatives to support the GOP is no problem. Where else will they go? The real trick is getting the working class to vote against their own economic interests, and FOR a party that consistently tips and rigs everything to benefit the Upper Class and Corporations. They do this by stirring up resentments, and holding out shiny religious baubles to distract them. As long as they allow themseles to be so distracted, they deserve a worsening standard of living that they get under Republican economic policies.

I'm in total agreement with kreevich's answer. Well said, sir. Unfortunately these voting patterns are wrecking things for us all. Read "What's the Matter With Kansas." It's a whole book about this. Another is "Growing Up Red"

Liberals have been trained to vote against their own interests. Conservatives have not. No one is making enemies. Jihadists declared themselves enemies of all non-Jihadists. We simply take their word for it.

They were lured into fiscal socialism by the Dark Side liberals. As far as making enemies goes, appeasement blows and doesn't work. As far as war goes, if you can't prove you can do it then who's going to believe you can when you need them to believe you can?
The islamofascists think we're weak because so many whiny peacenik liberals make so much noise. Is that good policy for the war on terror?

Conservatives are "trained" to support programs that reduce big government, lower taxes, and support freedom around the world. Liberals, who really are NOT (liberal), support big government, higher taxes, and fleeing from helping democracies flourish in the rest of the world.

maximum of them vote on cultural matters and as the folk who want decrease taxes help the matters that are considerable to them, they are prepared to help any argument that reduces taxes on them. it rather is obtrusive to everybody who thinks approximately it, that it is the folk who play in financial markets that destroys jobs that are created with the help of genuine companies not basically in 2008 yet at regular durations for extra advantageous than 200 years. those are the folk with the backside tax costs (capital effective properties) and the optimal earning and the only thank you to justify it rather is to faux they convey jobs like genuine companies do.

Conservatives have become, in the words of Broder the columnist, "muddled" in their thinking. They need to lay off the cocktails and get back to their basics. Re-read the social contract theorists, stop using golf carts, increase cardio, and by all means fire David Addington and send Karl Rove into exile in Barrow, Alaska, to teach history in the public schools.

Why do liverals stick their heads in the sand when a threat pops up and hope it goes away on it's own. Or throw our money at it and hope it buys the problem away.

The same way people are trained to believe in supernaturalism (religion). People can be convinced that intangible things (like religious values) are more important than tangible things (like safety and economy).
And how did the phrase Family Values get framed in such a way to exclude education and health care? Why is gay sex more important than education and health care?
