My sisters dog (female aged approx 8) has contracted parvovirus. She took it to the vets today and has to return in the morning as they are going to admit the dog.
This is the third day of her having symptoms. I have just looked the disease up on the internet and it doesnt look good for the poor old dog!
Any one had a dog with this virus? What happened to your dog?

Sorry the dog is 8 years old! (ish). We are not sure exactly as she rescued the dog from a neighbour of a friend that were mistreating her about 3 years ago!

I rescued my dog from a shelter 2 years ago and she is a parvo survivor. Unfortunately parvo is a very fatal disease in dogs. All your sister can do is get her to the vet now. I don't know why a vet would make her wait a day before admitting the dog that possibly has Parvo. I would suggest contacting another vet now and get the dog there. The best chance of beating something this serious would be to start treating it immediately. Good luck and I hope the dog is o.k.

I myself am a breeder and some of my older dogs have contracted the virus and I have found that bacon grease with cottage cheese helps to keep the dog fed because it sticks to their stomach and use pedialite to replace water. If the dog has carried it for three days and hasn't died, it will be ok. Puppy's cannot survive parvo but big, healthy, older dogs can! Good luck

some breeds deal with it better than others
if she has had any vaccinations for Parvo prior to getting it - she will have a better chance...
being 8 months is in her favor
I am not saying she will live - but hope for the best.. in the mean time she should be bleaching her home, even bleaching her sidewalks and stuff too so to kill the virus in the home and area
she shouldnt go where other dogs are because you can carry the virus on your shoes even
good luck

Poor puppy has Parvo? That sucks...my prayers go out to the girl.
It depends on how far gone the Parvo has already progressed *you said she had symptons for three days*
It's not easy to say this but I'll be honest with you..Parvo is very serious and can be fatal. But hopefully the vet can get it in time. My cousin's dog had it *well..the outcome wasn't good*, but he lived a good deal longer than was predicted.
Again, my prayers go out to you and the dog.

Outlooks not good I'm afraid. I had a puppy over 20 years ago that contracted parvovirus. (had it already when I got the puppy actually) You just reminded me how it broke my heart that short time, not being able to do a thing for it. But one from the same litter did survive, so, fingers crossed.

Lost 2-year-old with vet doing everything possible at the time. Not an easy death. That was some years ago before shots were available. Treatment may have improved too.

Touch and go for several days, then my dig started to recover. The vet bills were tremendous, but it was worth it. There is a very simple vaccine that prevents Parvi and I would urge any dog owner to have their pet vaccinated for this deadly virus.

Only if its treated immediately by a veteranarian. I had a 7 month old doberman pinscher that contracted Parvo. The vet admitted him and two days later he died.

I lost a puppy to parvo, its awful. Adult dogs have a better chance though especially if they have been vaccinated.
