Whenever my computer about booting it shows INVALID BOOT.INI FILE booting from C:\windows\?

what could have cause this and what can i do to rectify it

You can modify a file Boot.INI in C:\boot.ini in following way
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)
partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
