are there any christians who became christians because they didn't want to be "wrong and burn in hell".

What does the Bible say about that?

27 But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. 29 They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God.

Luke 13:27-29 (New King James Version)

for an agnostic your asking a lot of questions and you have obviously given this some thought. You however have confussed some issues. Let me help you figure this out. The first verse you refer too says "workers of iniquity" Thats not a referance to people of different faith. It is a referance to people who "work iniquity."

Jesus also said "if you love me keep my commandments" This would be the oposite of working iniquity. So what are Gods commandments? Keep reading and as you learn, them, do them. In the last day, he will know you and better still, you will know him. No weeping or gnashing of teeth for you.

As for christians who only became christian "just in case", you will find that that those who do not really believe, do not really "do". Its hard to keep the commandments of some one you don't really beleive in. Jesus also spoke of these in a parable of drinks. Some drinks are warm and enjoyable, some are cold and refreashing. But the luke warm ones get spit out.

Hope I have been helpful.

I think you've created this false agnostic persona, when in fact you're a stealth Christian. What would Jesus say about that? "If you deny me befoe men, I will deny you before My Father".

The concept of Hell is of Pagan origin. Christianity invokes Judaism and the Old Testament, but the original OT concept of the afterlife was a shadowy existence in Sheol, the Underworld, Land of the Dead. It is NOT the same thing as Hell. The Jews got Hell from Persian religion during the Babylonian Exile, but to the Persians' credit, their Hell was not eternal torment-- just a temporary means to purge sinners who wouldn't do it voluntarily. Any god who'd send anyone to hell for any reason BELONGS THERE HIMSELF!

But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of a man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I hereby justified: but judgeth me is the Lord. Therefore judge nothing before time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will manifest the counsels of the hearts. I Corinthians 4:3-5
You are not the one who gets to make that decision. I think you miss quoting the bible and If you do not get your life right you will spend eternal in hell.

Well Mr. Darwin, I can say you are right, that you will be rewarded, But it will be the wrong type of reward, there is certain types of punishment in the lake of fire, & I will be rewarded, too, For I am persuaded, that he that hath begun a good work in me shall be able to finish his work & I will be with Jesus Christ. Your Challenge just back-fired on you, Nice try, But a true Christian will not be decieved. Even if you ask a foolish question, I can give you a Bible answer.

To each his own. You know what's right or wrong wheater hell or heaven exist or not. You don't have to belong to any religion to understand one of it's basic teachings.

Do on to other as would do to yourself or something like that.

Be good basically. You'll feel the rewards.

Jesus said: " I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life; no man can come to the Father except through me".-- Jesus

What is YOUR excuse for rejecting Him?

hmmm good quote..it depends how you and others interpret what is written.
think for yourself. the "right" and "wrong" and "burning" is all -- concepts...and words...and they don't go beyond that -- think again...words describe...what you can describe physically or emotionally--and not more but usually less -- you can not describe "g-d" by words alone.....
try it...think for yourself...you only
can feel and count and think..etc.. don't ask the impossible....your interpretation is as good as the other person...hope it helps.

To my mind, the concept of "heaven" and "hell" is the "cane and carrot" approach to teaching; suitable only for kids.
