The first marriage was instituted by God. We can find this at Genesis 2:22-25: "and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."
This was the first scriptures where the words man and wife were used.
God married Adam and Eve and wanted them to remain together forever and their marriage would have been perfect as they were perfect, but unfortunately, they rebelled against God and lost their right to live forever in perfection. They did stay married, but along with imperfection came obstacles, such as coping with pain and how sad that Cain, their firstborn son, was the first to commit murder and against his own brother.
God provides counsel in the Bible for husbands and wives to help them make their marriages last for he hates divorce.(Malachi 2:16)

Adam and Eve were "married" or "mated" the moment God created Eve.

It is, however, and intereseting point that Eve came from Adams body, but that does not necessarily imply incest. When you get a blood transfusion from someone it doesn't change your DNA or make you their relative.

There is no law against marrying someone who gives you blood.

Marriage is a concept. A concept that two people join together to work together to make life together.

It is what separates man from animal, as most animals DO NOT do this!

Animals mate by random paring or even by rape and after the baby is created (almost instantly) they separate and go their own ways.

If you are looking for proof of an actual ceremony, you won't find it.
But she was presented to Adam, he excepted her, and Adam made a vow. That's no less than any marriage, today.

Gensis 2:22
...made He a woman and brought her unto the man.

God saw that Adam was alone and said it was not good. So he made Eve for Adam. So it was with Gods permission for them to be together. Now we have to get a license. And God did say to follow mans rules as long as they don't interfere if his rules. Hence you need the license but you also need God to be there.

The newer translations say Adam and Eve were married. Gen 2:24 says man shall leave his parents and cleave to His wife.

When God tells you here is some one I have created for you now go forth and multiply, your married. Is that simple enough? As far as being married in a church please understand they were put together "in the presence of GOD" in a perfect world. I'd call that a church. Any place God is, is sacred enough for me. Even Moses understood that where God stood was sacred ground. Putting off his shoes was a sign of respect even though he was not in a "church".
