To the first part yes- and an astute observation ...

To your addition .. it is not clear to me .. by "the religious" , do you mean people who identify themselves with varied orthodox faiths?... If you do- well then yes... both the structures of The Quran, Torah, and the translated Bible ... are set up structuring conceptions of "an oppressed people" ... leading the pschological orientations of the adherents of these faiths predisposed to developing "persecutrion complexes"...
However scripturally I find Bhuddhist, Hindu and most every other world religious scriptures and mythologies I have read (past faiths, and present) more or less exempt from this ...
The key term here may be "chosen" ... Jews, Christians, and Muslims all have the tendency to view themselves as specially "chosen" .. and those outside their faiths as "heathen, pagan, or infidel" ... we are in an area of nuance ... It does not mean that plenty of the adherents don't develop a wisdom to try and offset that view with some compassion and tolerance .. But the fact that those texts are structured to develop worldviews of that character is undeniable ...

Haven't thought about it before, but you're probably right. The oppressed must build up a lot of anger and tend to take it out on others. Pointing fingers doesn't do anything to change it though.

The key words in your statement/question are "tend to." We all possess free will, and thereby have the means to change what we are and what we do. So, the circle of violence is not necessarily endless.

It ends when one of those being oppressed kills the guy oppressing him rather than passing it on down the chain.

No people have control over themselves and they can stop any vicious circle if they want to. I did and I am dam proud of it. Just because people did me wrong as a child was no reason for me to do wrong to anyone else. I stopped the vicious circle, by the grace of God and with His love and anyone can call on Him and do the same.
