The Jews were expelled from Spain in about 1492, any Jews who remained hid their Jewish identity, so they would eat pork in public but follow Jewish customs at home. They were called moranos. Also Jews did not have a surname, they were called Joseph son of Jacob son of Abraham - Joseph ben Jacob ben Avraham. The jews who left Spain - settled mostly in North Africa, and some in France, they are called Sephardic Jews.
I found the following web site showing a record of Sepahrdic Jews in Tunis and Rhodes with the name Franco:
http://www.orthohelp.com/geneal/names.htm
So yes it appears that Franco could be a name of Spanish Jewish descent, however it could also be a non Jewish name. I doubt if General Franco of Spain was of Jewish descent.

I believe Franco is an Italian name. Franco Harris didn't look very Italian though (or Jewish).

Sounds Italian to me, although it could be Sephardic.
I know several Jewish Francos and one who is non-Jewish.
James Franco ("Freaks and Geeks", "Spider-man") is Jewish.

It could be a Sephardic Jewish name---Jews from Spain. Mexican, Spanish, and Sephardic names are all the same. Such as, the now president of Mexico, Calderone, is a very Sephardic name.
