I have lost astronomical sums of money,I just cant stop heavy drinking. The following day ,after a drinking spree, I regret a lot and the next moment I lay my hands on money...I do have that strong craving for one pint of beer and it is one after the other untill dawn. Is it normal? My bank account is always overdrawn. I am 31and got divorced with something related to my drinking habit 2 years now..Want to stop this habit but I just cant. Any ideas please. I am stranded.

Yes you can, Its fine now that you know the problem and you want to solve it...So having recognised your problem that it is big, start today working it out...Clear your mind of the desire to take beer..because it all originates from your very mind and then go on..It is like a battle, some of battles we often fight in life ,so go ahead and be determined to win. it is possible.

First do not near yourself a bottle of beer...make a point..Its hard I know. But be firm and see how much money you are losing

Second, Friends must be told this outright...they will lough and I know that you are single but from your question I cant tell whether you are male or female..let me suppose you should be male and that means you enjoy beer in company of ladies.Thats probably what would keep you till dawn to get one more..Stop thinking about those women instead find someone whom you will consider marrying...may be it will keep you attracted to your home.

Do not get ruined, you are old enough to start living your health ways, may be you started drinking as result of your marriage problems that led to divorce, now that you want to start all over agiain..then just do that. STOP!!

Good luck

Answer # 4 of MikenRi was I think the best, although it is not yet voting time. I have heard of it here in our country.
And I also have seen people in tv giving stories of success.
But if you can take it from me.. Indeed it is simply because you don't want to stop..
I was a heavy drinker myself,, and not only beer any liquor I could take my hands on. I drink everyday, every night until i feel asleep drinking.. Waking up,, the first thing I do is to drink the left over before eating and then again,,, almost the same routine...
But when I said I don';t want it anymore. I did..
It took only 3 hard days to control to turn your saliva away from the drink, 3 days to stay in bed without getting up exceep to pee or to go CR..
It is all in the mind my friend... I was there.. Now its been 3 years,, and I am happy where I am how..

Don't despair. Alcohol abuse is a common problem and there are many resources to help you. Knowing that you have a problem and wanting to fix it is already a giant step in the right direction.

If it is difficult for you to have only one beer, then you should avoid drinking altogether. You should think about joining a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous so you don't have to face this struggle alone. You can also seek help from your healthcare provider or from a church community, if you are religious. Drinking is affecting your ability to have a successful life, and therefore it is a problem, but you can overcome it if you really want to and put your mind to it.

Best wishes.

Look in local phone book for "alcoholics anonymous". If you can't stop drinking, feel miserable and powerless ... well ... it's up to you to be honest with yourself. Just go to a meeting, and you'll see a bunch of people who were in the same place, but are now happy in recovery. Don't think "I'll never enjoy a beer again". You're not enjoying it, and you only have to take things one day at a time.

Yes you can stop. I have known many people who have had the same problem who haven't drink in decades now.

If you can't stop yourself from buying booze, go to an AA meeting. I know it feels weird the first time or two, but all the people there have gone through what you have.

Good luck!

If you dont want to quit drinking completely, set yourself some rules. I used to do that too. Now, I reward myself with a beer if I have done a really hard days work.

start reading books to stop / reducing your drinking habbit. Find the friends who are not drinking regularly. Go to Toastmaster's club to make some changes. Get a good girl friend.

You need to join Alcoholics Anon now or check yourself into rehab. You're on the path to complete self destruction and you should stop yourself while you still have time. Don't do this to yourself.
