You can catch chickenpox from someone with shingles if you have not had chickenpox before. (You cannot get shingles itself from someone who has shingles.) The shingles rash is contagious until all the blisters have scabbed and are dry.
If the blisters (vesicles) are covered with a dressing, it is unlikely that the virus will pass on to others. This is because the virus is passed on by direct contact with the blisters. (Therefore, if you have a job you can return to work once the blisters have dried up, or earlier if you keep the rash covered and feel well enough.)

You can get shingles at any age once you have had the chicken pox. My little brother got them when he was about 6. do you have a cat? A circular rash sounds like ringworm, not shingles.

If you have had chicken pox then no. Shingles is something that was dormant in your son until now and has chosen to manifest itself at this time.
Hopefully you got him to the docs and on anitbiotics right away and yes, he should be fine.

I had chickenpox when I was 3 ...and got shingles in my early 20's so you can catch it but if you have had chickenpox it is less likely you will do so.

No its in his nerve endings, I have had them twice & no one I contacted ever had them after contact with me, If they are on a part of the body he cant reach the you are safe to put the liquid on them. If thats what the doctor prescribed, You will find he is a bit short tempered that is part of the shingles
