Temepratures in December can be relatively mild, depending on the particular year, and where in Canada (it's a very big country!) I recommend you do come, and bring a lot of warm clothes. Also buy good boots for the snow, and have your kids play in the snow, they'll love it!

Whoever advised you not to come to Canada in Jan, Feb and March must have been from one of the colder parts of Canada -- that is, from the Prairies or from Northern Canada.
If you come to BC in December, you will find people out playing golf, running, playing tennis and generally enjoying themselves outdoors. Yes, we wear winter clothing, but light clothing, not the heavy padded or down filled jackets that other parts of Canada require.
Travel is December IS expensive, because Christmas is in December, and the travel companies charge a premium for travel at that time of year. You would have been much better off to book your holiday in January, when the rates drop, and come to a more temperate part of the country.
You don't say where you plan to go on you holiday, so it's hard to advise you which time of year would be best.

December isn't too bad, at least in Ottawa. It hovered around 0 C and when it dipped below, it was MAYBE -5 C. If you guys are going to move to Canada, you might as well experience the weather now. But definately make sure you have the right clothes for it. And never underestimate the importance of a good hat, scarf, and pair of gloves.

Come on over! Depending on what part of Canada you go, winter can be kind of harsh. But the last few years, we've had a late summer and fall, so December may be OK. Besides, if it is cold, then you know what to prepare for in 2008.

If you like snow, rain, freezing your butt off and other pleasantries winter has to offer you are most welcome to try it out. Canada is a huge country, there must be at least 50 different climates from no snow, mild freezing in the extreme west to - 40 on the Prairies and snow in the Eastern part. Difficult to advise what to do but I would suggest wait till spring.

If you plan to settle there you will eventually have to endure the winters. Some places are certainly colder than others, but do take care of those little ones. They may enjoy the snow, and there are both fun winter activities and beautiful scenery in the winter, especially if you are lucky enough to see hoar frost on the trees.

December and March are not as cold as January or February. It shouldn't go below -10.
Kids love the snow (but you're not guaranteed snow in Toronto in December).

If you think -10 is very very cold, you might want to rethink a permanent move to Canada! (Or pick the Vancouver area.)

So yeah, I say go for it!

I would definitely go, but dress warm. There is so much to do there in the winter from snow and ice sculpture festivals, to ice skating, catching a hockey game, etc. If you're thinking about moving there you might as well explore Canada in all its glory...and seasons!

If you love to ski, or want to try it than its the perfect time! The best time would be around december, or march as I find Jan/Feb are the coldest months... than again last year, at least in the Atlantic provinces, it was unseasonably warm here.

If you like snow, then it's a great place to go for skiing, sledding, iceskating, etc., just make sure you have warm winter clothes. If you like sitting by a fire and drinking hot chocolate, this is a good place to go. Otherwise, wait until it warms up a bit.
