I bought one years ago, do you reckon it has gone up much in value?

Wow, do I ever like his work - just a young fella too, from what I found on him. Looks like his works are pretty large, I bet you'd be looking at a couple of thou anyway to buy an original. Too bad, I couldn't find any current originals. Why don't you contact that gallery with your questions? Bet they'd be happy to help if they thought you were a buyer.

The print maket is pretty soft right now (in Canada, anyway), not a good time to sell unless he's enjoying a resurgence... depends on the size of the edition too, and if there's no number on the print it won't be worth much more than you originally paid.

There are several variables that must be answered in order to determine the worth of an original based on the cost of prints made. Not every original by any given artist is going to be worth the same amount, so an appraisal is important, from a reputable art dealer. If the print is worth 150, you have to ask how many prints were made of each picture. The rarity of a print (from a series of 6, instead of a series of 1000) will help determine a higher price, as will the quality of the prints, of the paper, etc. If prints by an artist are valuable, then it's safe to assume that originals are more valuable. That being said, it's all about supply and demand. See a reputable art dealer or appraiser, because there is no set formula to determine the answer to this kind of question.

there is no formula. you can guarantee that if the value of the print has gone up, then so has the original. Sometimes people can only speculate at how much something would be sold for IF it were on the market.
