Too many people take on pets that they can't afford. Your parents are wise not to let you have one unless it can be properly cared for.
I don't know how old you are, but if you aren't making your own money that can pay for the animal completely, you don't really have any say in the matter.
Here's something I found at http://www.volunteerservicesforanimals.org/files/faq.html :
How much does it cost to own a dog?
Puppies – 1st year – can cost up to $1,050. (Veterinary care/lab tests $50-$125, immunizations $50 - $100, Internal/External Parasite Treatment & Control $100-$150, Spay/Neuter - $50-$150, Food $150-$250, Miscellaneous expenses-collars, leashes, toys, training $200-$225.
Dogs – annual – can cost from to $340 - $775 (Veterinary care/lab $50-$125, immunizations $40-$75, internal/external parasite preventatives $100-$150, Food $150-$300, Miscellaneous expenses- $100-$125
I really want a dog too. I own my house so I am able to make my own decisions. I know that I don't have enough money to properly care for it. I also don't have enough time to walk a dog everyday. If I were to get a dog right now to fulfill my own selfish desires, it wouldn't be fair TO THE DOG!
If you really have a desire to be around animals but can't afford it, then try to find a local shelter where you can volunteer and help them take care of the animals. Most shelters would love extra help, and you would also get an idea of what it really takes to care for an animal.

Well, I don't know how old you are but here is the bottom line. If you want a dog so bad then start saving your money to pay for its food and its vet bills. Show your parents that you are really serious about this.
A dog is a big responsibility. A dog is not a toy that you can just ignore and then play with it every once in a while. Go to the library and get a book on raising puppies/dogs. Make a plan and write it down in your dog journal. Then show this to your parents and have another discussion about getting a dog. Good luck!

I already have a dog, however up until about two months ago we used to have two, recently a friend has told us that her cocker spaniel is having puppies this was the breed of dog we lost. I really want a new puppy and I have got ways of persuading my parents: 1. If you have enough money ask if you buy 1 can you have 1 2. Buy it for a present for your mum and dad (I'm planning on a christmas pressie) 3. Tell them that you will walk it and take it to training 4. Instead of getting a puppy you could always rehome a dog, there are many in rescue centres that need loving caring homes. You don't have to go through the peeing and pooing inside stage then. You do need to think though is a puppy or dog really pratical for your situation? Things you need to think about are: 1. Is there somebody home all day to look after it and care for its needs? 2. Do you have the time to look after it train it and take it for walks? 3. Ask your parents the reason you cant have a puppy prehaps its because someone is allergic, you will probably find there's a valid reason. I wish you the best of luck in getting a puppy, but remember they don't stay puppies forever. Talk to your parents and reason with them I've got a friend who talked to her parents and after 5 years of whining to get a dog she got 1. Everything takes time don't expect to get what you want when you want it.

Some people are very lonely and a pet might help them. Dogs and cats can be fun but they can also be a big mess and costly sometimes. I'm sure your parents mean well.
After all, dogs need to be walked maybe twice a day every day! And you have to take responsibility for their mess. They are not good animals to keep in the house at least normally. If a dog is not trained properly from birth they can bark even at those who are close to you.
I personally prefer my hamster. You can't throw them around, but it is fun watching them do their little thing. If you treat them with a lot of love and respect they will live for a few years. They like to eat and sleep a lot. They like little treats two or three times a day. Give them a fresh grape or a cabbage leaf. They may prefer the fresh veggies over the store bought feed. They don't have to eat meat. They love a little piece of fresh cheese.

It is fair! They are the parents, you are a child. Dogs are wonderful but yes a huge responsibility. Puppies chew on everything and don't care where they poop and pee! They are like small children. Training is not an easy chore either, it takes alot of time and patience. People always want pets then the work and the cost become to much and they dispose their precious pets....wait.

Can you blame your parents. Too often kids wants pets. once the novelty wears off the parents land up looking after the dogs. You will have to convince them somehow that it will not be so in your case.

you can have a dog when you have your own place
dont be so self-centered, no means no--you whiny little turd. Respect your parents or get the hell out of their house. You will grow tired in a few days and mom will have yet another job to do in taking care of the dog. Grow up bich.
