Most likely another 3 points and a couple hundred dollar fine.
Not sure about your state but here it takes 12 points to loose your licence.
Actually 58 in a 30 is not that really serious as compaired to most traffic offense police do. Unless this was a school zone or a construction zone there should not be that much of a problem.

I suppose it depends HOW he was caught - camera or officer - then whether he gets a straightforward ticket with the option of paying a fine and getting points, or whether they take him to court. And then it is up to the magistrate - so anything from a £60-80 fine and 3 points to a magistrate recommending that he lose his licence for a short period of time.
I really hope he learns his lesson this time. That sort of speed in a residential area could have KILLED someone if they had got in the way.
In fact, a 4 week ban might be appropriate for that sort of speed.

For driving less than 30mph over the speed limit he will usually get points, these are usually given by the roadside as a fixed penalty. Was your friend offered a fixed penalty?
If driving more than 30 over the speed limit (or if the cop is having a bad day) he will have to go to court and will probably get a short ban (maybe 1 month if he has a good excuse).
Good luck

He shouldnt lose his licence. You have 12points on a licence so he has 9 left....possible penalty is £60 fine and 6points, but he may be lucky and get only 3 points. If he was double the limit which he almost was then its definitely the first i mentioned. He will then only have 3 points left to go.

if your friend has had his licence under two years he will only be allowd 6 points on there before it is revoked. If this is the case it seems likely that he will loose his licence.
If he has had it for more than 2 years, he is allowed upto 12 points and may be able to keep his licence.

Could be life. If he had ran someone over at the same time he would only be looking at a fine and 3 points. He could then sued the family of the victim for something to do with his human rights and lived a life of luxury

Because of the relatively high speed compared to the limit he is not eligable for a fixed penalty. The rule of thumb is that if you do 30mph above the prescribed limit you will be disqualified. Therefore he is at the level where Magistrates will consider a period of disqualification.
