Some say they do, but I don't think so as my experience has not been good with them. I have met a few who could write much better than they could speak and some who where not at all what they presented. I suggest doing a search those in your sexual preference, age group and location to see how long some have been there and how they present themselves. That was a real eye opener to me.
When I gave up on it all and started doing the things I loved, not really caring if another came along or not, the one I spent so much time looking for found me.

They're a good last resort. They're a lot more deceptive than meeting people in bars and the ratio of males to females is worse but if you're too shy or just can't get out to meet women, what choice do you have?

no, but it is so much fun anyway...you get to meet tons of weirdos who look nothing like their photos or boring people who cannot make friends, or someone really sexy and interesting who has no time for dating. Then there are those just after a quickie... takes all sorts, but if you don't take it seriously you will make tons of new friends and have fun taking the mickey out of the weirdos!!!!!
