These are your pharmacological options
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolpidem
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorazepam
Do not manage sleep pharmacologically as far as possible. But do not wait to see the doctor if your insomnia is not allowing you to function properly.
Addiction and abuse potential of Sleeping pills are very high.
Relaxation techniques might help some people. A glass of warm milk also worth a try.

Some times the sleep problem may be caused by other disorders such as Depression, OCD, PTSD etc... In that case you have to find underlying cause and treat them. Your doctor may prescribe you drugs like Zoloft, Prozac or Paxil.

Make sure you relax a short time before heading to bed. Avoid things which will stimulate the brain i.e using your PC. Avoid drinking coffee too late as the caffeine is a stimulant.

If your brain is over active then makes it more difficult to drift off to sleep.

Can always try playing soothing music in your bedroom plus use some lavender essential oil on the pillow. Lavender is supposed to help with sleep problems.

For the last hour before you go to bed try a wind down procedure. Have a light snack and a drink (nothing caffinated) turn off the TV and computer (you dont want to bombard your brain with information right when you want it to be resting) Put on comfortable clothes and read for a little while. This will tire out your eyes and after a while you will be fighting to keep them open.
Works for me anyway

Before you go to bed, like about 30 minutes before, eat a small snack. I suggest 1-2 oz of turkey (triptophan - spelling approximate), a cracker or a cookie, or if you are concerned about your weight - a low glycemic carbohydrate, like ½ apple, and also some nuts - almonds or peanuts are best. Do drink a glass of water with this. This is a recipe for some slow burning energy that will help level your blood sugar out for the night.

If your restlessness is due to your brain seeking blood sugar, because it is getting low in the middle of the night, this recipe will help that.

If this works, and you should know it in about 3 days if it will consistently, you may want to check out www.hufa.org for more info on low blood sugar, its causes and things you can do about it.

Insomnia is not a good thing, this could possibly mean you are very stressed about something, you might say its nothing, look deep down, your body is reacting to stress in this way, go to the doctor, if you dnt want to do this stay away from electricals and go into a room where there is no disturbances, and try to still your mind/thinking, see what happens, or look at what relaxes you and take it from there.

Try to allow yourself time before bed to relax and unwind. If you are having trouble falling asleep (vs. staying asleep), relaxing music or a white noise machine (available at amazon.com---see link below) can be useful. If you are waking up a lot, taking a regular dose of benadryl might help (and it's not habit-forming). Best of luck! Hope you get some z's soon. :) See a doctor and/or therapist if it persists, so that you can figure out what is causing the insomnia.

well the drugs prob rnt helping so id suggest u stop that. try to relax b4 u go 2 bed like dnt play the playstation or use the computer as this makes it harder to sleep, try having a warm bath and a drink like hot chocolate before going 2 bed i find that helps, you could also try to go 4 a Long walk as the fresh air and tiring yourself out may help!! good luck

Are you getting enough vitamin B? Apparently a lack of that will make it hard for you to sleep. See a doctor before you start popping sleeping pills. You might need to make some adjustments to your diet.
