Well they can. A single rose is symbolic of love but when you give someone any kind of flower you know that is an expression that you care about someone. If you want to make it clear that you love someone, the red rose is the way to do that. But you could give the gift of any kind of flower, and that is surely a token of affection no matter what kind of flower it is. With flowers, it's the thought that counts. A lot of different flower types have different meanings, like a Peace Lily, Forget-Me-Nots, even carnations have meanings.

Because roses are protected by their thorns, which most all other flowers do not have. We always want what is the hardest to attain. Therefore in receiving a rose, it is the most thoughtful. Besides everything about a rose is beautiful. When it is closed and how it opens and it has the most lovely smell of any flower I know.

Now if only I could get someone to buy me one :o)

All roses symbolize love & the red ones symbolize romantic love. Roses, like all flowers, are the sexual organs of plants & therefore it's very appropriate to give roses to women & sweethearts. :-)

because Roses means something valuable but fragile at the same time. Like the emotional heart when it beats for someone you like/love or a flame that lights through the night (try not to get burned) wishing it light forever like an "Eternal Flame"
