If you're a vegetarian, why would you want to eat a poor meat substitute anyway? If you're not, then why not just eat a proper steak?

Good question! Why indeed. It's like eating regurgitated milk.
Apparently.

1. Let me get this clear, tofu was never meant to be a meat substitute, it is a primary food in Asian cooking for thousands of years which was adapted as a meat substitute by vegetarians because of it's texture is similar to meat (.okay....).
2. If you never liked tofu, I'm guessing you never had GOOD tofu, I never understood tofu eating it growing up, but it is very good cooked right, I personally thinks tofu tastes much better than meat. (i'm not a vegetarian)
3. honestly, I think that I could survive on tofu alone if I didn't have the option to eat meat ;)

Tofu is seriously tasty! I would choose to eat tofu over meat any day, and I'm not a vegetarian!

It is just such a nice texture and flavour...mmmm. Where as steak is just disgusting. Ugh. Why would anyone look at a big heap of charred meat and think, ooh yes, that looks delicious?

So there you go, different strokes for different folks I guess!

I am not vegetarian but I eat tofu sometimes. It tastes good but does not exactly taste like meat. It has some of the vitamins that meat has and creates a filling effect in the stomach that is similar to the feeling that meat gives.

Because vegetarians don't eat steak..DUH!

Tofu is not a meat substitute technically..it's been around for thousands of years in Asian cooking.

Tofu and Tara are the same the Hawaiians make poi out of it, comes from a root, it goes back to the early evolution of primates eating roots instead of hunting for proper food. Some people just never evolve!

Tofu is actually healthy and it absorbs the flavors you are cooking with. I made a stir fry with it. I am not a vegetarian, I love meat but i wanted to give it a try.

It tastes great mixed in a soup. It absorbs the flavors from the other foods and tastes like real meat. No - not a vegetarian, but it is cleaner than meat.

i'm a veggie and have eaten Tofu in the past - it is revolting!! But I would rather eat that than a steak!! Although 18 years ago I was rather nifty at steak au poivre and steak diane!!

Properly prepared, tofu is yum. I think you've been sold some bad stuff.

Personally, I don't see the point of eating low-grade meat - why buy cheap nasty stuff rather than save up and have decent well-hung meat less often? (sorry, I know that's not your question, I'm just musing...)

I love tofu!!!!!
It's tasty and good for you.
Try chopping it into chunks, marinating it with some soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and chilli, and then baking it in a hot oven for about 15-20 mins. It goes all nice and crispy.
If thats too much like hard work just order some beancurd in black bean sauce from your chinese takeaway. Delicious!
