the tapeworm, is transmitted to dogs and cats that ingest fleas (fleas think tapeworm eggs are real tasty!) or that hunt and eat wildlife or rodents infested with tapeworms or fleas. If you were to see an entire tapeworm you would notice that they are arranged with a small head at one end and many tiny brick-like repeating segments making up the rest of the worm. There are generally two types that infest dogs and cats; tapeworms can reach 4 to 6 inches in length within the intestine. It is the last segments in the chain that are released from the worm that can be seen in the dog or cats' stool or as in these photos, attached to the fur under the pet's tail. An entire tapeworm may have 90 segments! Many cases are diagnosed simply by seeing these tiny terminal segments attached to the pet's fur around the anus or under the tail; they even move around a bit shortly after they are passed and before they dry up and look like little grains of rice or confetti. These segments of the tapeworm contain the eggs. Tapeworms cannot be killed by the typical generic, over-the-counter wormers; see the veterinarian for prescription-only treatment that really works. Don't waste your time or money on non-prescription tape worm medications... they don't work very well. The below website will give you description af all the worms a dog can get, but your dog has tapeworms. Yes it can give the worms to your other dog.

They are tapeworms. They come from ingesting a flea that is carrying the larvae of a tape. NO they do not cross from dog to dog. The other dog would have to eat a flea as well. Some dogs chew them and spit them out, some dogs eat them, some dogs don't chew them at all, some dogs have less fleas.
You need to get some droncit or cestex from your vet. Just call or stop by and tell them what your dog has. They will dispense a pill or pills. Don't bring the dog in because then they will charge you for an office visit. No need to bring in the stool sample either unless this is a puppy in which case it needs a fecal check for other worms. You want to get some frontline, or advantage while there to keep fleas off the dogs. These products work best and are not absorbed into the bloodstream like the ones sold in stores. You may also want to ask for a capstar pill which will kill every flea on the dog in 30 minutes and lasts for 24 hours. Depending upon how bad your flea problem is. Good luck.

It sounds like a tape worm, but tape worms are usually smaller than 5 inches when they come out. So it might also be a roundworm, though roundworms live in the stomach, not the intestines. Either way, you should take your dog to the vet with a stool sample so they can determine what kind of worm it is, and what medication to give him.

There are four main types of worm:
Roundworm
Tapeworm
Hookworm
Whipworm
For details and more information check out this article:

Early diagnosis of the presence and species of intestinal parasite is important, for not all worms respond to the same treatment. Therefore, stool samples should be taken to the veterinarian for microscopic examination if worms are suspected.

If they are about 1 1/2 inch long and start to shrink up to the size of a grain of rice as they dry, then it is tapeworm.
Vets use Droncit. The generic form of Droncit is Praziquantel and can be bought at most larger pet stores. I've used it on some of the rescues that I have had. Clears up in one treatment unless you have a flea problem.
You can also buy Praziquantel at some online stores. I get mine from http://www.jefferspet.com

We cannot know what kind of worms they are. Give him Drontal. The other dog can get them if he gets in contact with his stool.

Sounds like tape worms, which can be passed from one dog to the other. I would take her to the vet for Deworming. My cat had it, and the vet gave him some med. once, two different times, and he was fine.
