We'd really need to know what you are planning on doing with them.

I've seen manual filter presses used for dewatering sludge from small plating operations. There the sludge is a small volume and needs to be very dry, if fact they run it though a gas fired dryer after the filter press.

I've seen automatic filter presses in the same application for larger volume operations.

Belt presses are often used for waste water sludges where you're dealing with a high volume of sludge and don't need to get the sludge extremely dry.

It depends upon what the application is. I have seen many presses and one very good one for low volume is the plate press. If the material you are de-watering is bad then the plate press is good. For high volume use the belt press. Again whether auto or manual is determined by manpower and volume of material being pressed. I prefer the automated system if you have no clogging problems.
