not necessairly true or false. until a child is old enough to choose which is the best Religion to follow certainly the parents have a duty and responsibility to guide and direct their childern in the way they think best in all areas of their education getting them ready to take their place in society. Religious training in only a small part of training younger people about what their duties and obligations to their society is. our society is different than when your parents grew up and will be different than when you grow up when you are older. societies must change or die and Religion is only one part of the system.

I do not follow the religion of my parents. The religion I follow I chose to follow on my own after much searching on my own. My parents raised me to search on my own and to never just accept blindly their beliefs or the beliefs of others. In fact, my mother and my father are not even of the same denomination within the same religion. I come from a very religiously diverse family (both immediate and extended).

Religion is not the problem with the world today, it should not be blamed for the harm. Religion is merely a tool used by people to reach spiritual goals and achieve spiritual experiences in life. I agree with folksinger Ani DiFranco who said "Every tool is a weapon if you hold it right." You do not blame the hammer that smashed through someones skull for murders, you blame the people that used the hammer.

I must have missed a previous post.

It is the responsibility of each of us, after a certain age, to find the truth. The common thread of almost all religions except one, is man seeking God. By contrast, Christianity and the Holy Bible is about God seeking man. The Holy Bible is the only book that prophecied the coming of Jesus Christ, several hundred years before he was born. It told where he would be born, where he would grow up, that he would flee Egypt, the entire story ahead of time. This is only one of hundreds of prophecies that have come true down to every detail. There is no question that these are the writings of God Himself, through the Holy Spirit in man.

If you wish you follow this thread further, read the "Finding of Truth" article at the link given below. Also read the "Essay" for a detailed discussion of truth, what it consists of, how to find it and verify it, and what it means to your life.

God does not condone murder or terrorism.

God does not put fear into our hearts.

God does not wish harm on anyone, and therefore does not condone any type of violence, except in self defense.

Terrorists are going to cause World War III, not peace-loving Christians. We are merely trying to save the world, not destroy everyone that doesn't beleive what we do.

We are all spoon fed in some way. I was given a religion as a child but was lucky to have a mother who helped me have an open and accepting mind. I've turned my back on that religion now and have found another path. We'll never stop this because parents who truly believe in a religion believe that by passing on their relgion they are doing the best for their child. They are doing it out of love.

I agree with you on some of this,, being someone who wasn't spoon feed and was given a chance by my parents to expoler different religions before I decided,, I must admit I formed a realationship with God before I went to "church".

Most of what makes religion appealing to the populations is the amount of magical, super human, mystical, theme's given to us in the Bible, ( I will only speak about the Bible since I haven't read the Koran) but from what I understand most other major religions also work on these premis. We all want to believe in something bigger than us,, we look at the stars at nite and want to believe there was something big and special that made them. We want to think that someone is protecting us, that there's a way to pray ourselves out of bad luck or through something terrible.

I have to also say before I get competely attacked right along with you,, that I have seen things I can't explain and I do believe there is a huge power bigger than us,, I am just not sure what it is.

It is easy to take a swipe at religion and declare children are spoon fed and have no choice. But, what about all the other things which are spoon fed to children. Potty training is about where it starts. Teaching them how to care for themselves, to interact with others, to share, to have character and integrity? These are family doctrines and not religious doctrines...do you declare them in the same vein?

Religion is something which must be taken by faith...a lot the same way YOU had to take by faith some of the things your parents taught you BEFORE you were able to test them out.

Which brings us to this idea. Parents CAN be wrong. Children will not always be "followers" of parents on ALL things, but will reach a stage where they need to test these things out in the world. The ideas when accompanied by knowledge will do one of two things...pass or fail. We then shun things which fail, accept the things which pass.

BTW, western women are NOT stupid. Women are not stupid. Many a woman has made lives of others bearable, have contributed much to society, to family life, to the political world, and in response to needs of others.

Maybe that is true but a small group of these kids will question and then reject the original belief once they are old enough to think on their own. My parents made the mistake of not savagely indoctrinating me as a young child in baptist teachings so when they finally did start taking me to church it was too late. The teachings never took.

You CAN'T stop these activities because in America it is the parents right to teach their child THEIR belief.

It is the responsibility of a parent to teach their children what is necessary for survival in this world. How to dress, what to cook, how to clean, 2+2=4, balancing a checkbook, etc. all are necessary skills. Introductions to theology are included in a parent's responsibilitys! What we know as parents to be true about love, life, faith, and God, we must pass on to our children. Atheists are NO DIFFERENT; they pass on their lack of beliefs to their children.

So, are atheists "force feeding" their children an empty bowl, when it comes to metaphysics? Refusing to pass the plate? Denying them a simple piece of bread, that so many others have, because they don't believe in the baker?

Programming goes both ways. Atheists have killed people who disagreed with them too. Stop leaving that little fact out!

Are you overlooking the Kmer Rouge, or the Communist governments of the USSR, Poland, China, East Germany, and the like? Their brutality against people of faith doesn't count as a religious issue? And these governments are based on ATHEISM.

Atheists are no better. Bloodshed is bloodshed. Darwin and Marx and Engels and Lenin and Stalin all wrote books, too. Not a single one of THEM worked a miracle, but they inspired people to go out and shed blood. So what is the difference?

It true what you say about spoon feeding. I am a Zarathustri. I was brought up to blindly trust my religion - No Questions Asked. I naturally rebelled and did not want to follow it blindly. I went through a stage when I was purely agnostic / atheist. Then I decided to learn about my religion and one of the deepest insights that I got was about purpose.

We humans, who cannot even begin to conceive the meaning of God, assume that we are choosing and making a choice when we choose a religion. The only choice we have is between good and bad. That is the purpose of our lives - To Increase Good.

Religion is just a way of channeling us towards that purpose, and is only regionally / ethnically different to suit each region / ethnic .

I agree with you 100%! I was raised by my mother who had converted to Islam about a decade before she had me. I was told that if I wasn't a Muslim when I grew up I would go straight to Hell, as there was no excuse for turning away from Islam. If I hadnt been told that I probably wouldn't have been so avid on learning about other Religions and getting out of Islam! Needless to say, I'm not a Muslim now and I don't worry about going to Hell, for I now know the TRUTH! ALL IS GOD, religion only confuses this truth for the purpose of control.
