They're very sensitive to atmospheres! In my own case my dogs take instant dislike to certain people for no reason. My dog (Pic) was walking out of the Vet's room when he went ballistic at a woman standing at the counter. I couldn't explain it! He looked really cross with her for some reason. I apologized for his barking and took him to my car. This was definitely not like him you see! Days later bumped in to the Vet at a fundraising event. Spoke to him about it and he told me that my dog wasn't a bad judge. The woman he had appeared so angry with? Had called in to ask for a reference that he (Vet) Wouldn't give her because she was a bad breeder, had overbred and abused dogs for a long time. Was finally barred from keeping animals. Now i didn't know her, didn't know what was happening but one side glance and my dog knew! OK she wasn't Lucifer but still ... I'd call what she did evil!

I don't know about a dog smelling an evil spirit but they do pick up on things that we cannot. I believe they can/do sense evil. My brother had an experience with his dog. They were watching tv when Peanut started growling and the hair on his neck was raised. He followed something going through the room with his eyes but did not leave my brother's side. The "thing" left through the door and Peanut went back to normal. It was just my brother and the dog in the house. No one else was there. He said it scared the sh!t out of him but it never happened again. Creepy!

I have some interesting things in my back yard. People constantly stop and ask for a tour. My dog is very friendly to most of them. When he doesn't like someone they don't get the tour. Most of the time I feel the same way toward them as my dog does. They don't look trustworthy and I don't like being ripped off so I'll trust my dogs instinct even if I don't pick up on the bad vibes. I know I can count on Jake.
Why should I trust someone Jake doesn't like? He likes almost everybody.

you know, another thing i believe there's no answer too...
but most animals seem to be able to sense that kind of stuff
but just because a dog doesn't like someone doesn't mean any thing.... a person some times gives off an uneasy vibe and because they aren't comfortable it makes the dog uncomfortable
i've always been a person who for some reason..... everyone's like stay away from that person they're pissed off right now (their own friends) and some reason i'm one of the only people who can calm them down... made some of my best friends this way
and i think with both animals and people... you give off different vibes some times, and people around you pick up on them... if they notice they are or not
i've also had some people soon as i see them i know some things going to happen.... before i talk to them or any thing... i just know they are going to start some thing... no reason behind it or nothing....
and i've also gotten that in the reverse... i see someone and for some reason i just don't like them.... they never did nothing or any thing but i just don't like them....
i try to not do nothing... but you still feel it there...
so in a round about way i'm saying.... yeah i think dogs are very good at picking up signals that people give off.... but no i don't think they can just out right smell evil in a person

Dogs do have an amazing instinct. When they are particularly close to an owner, you can see how it works. A Dane that I had in the past would postion herself between me and someone that she did not know. You could read from her body language whether she liked or disliked the person.
If my dogs do not seem to like someone, then I take it that they know something more than I do.

hell yeah! my pitador (pit and lab) hates our next door neighbors and barks like crazy whenever they go into their back yard. its only this one set of neighbors too. all our other neighbors he may bark once or twice when he sees them and thats it. we think they are running a drug house. lucky for us and our dog, they moved out yesterday!! but i know dogs can sense maybe not an evil spirit per say, but can definitely sense ppl that are mean and evil.

I do believe dogs have certain sensory ability that humans lack.
eg ...if in the night a dog starts to howl ....it indicates something evil is around the place.
