The student is an empty glass, thirsty for knowledge. The teacher is the drink of life, giving to everyone and leaving no one parched.

you are an empty vessel in the presence of the teacher. a well of great depth but no water....the teacher's role is to fill you with understanding and knowledge..."the water" if you will...

it's a quite old and overused analogy....looking back to Aristotle and Plato....disregard this nonsense...

You are born into a certain amount of knowledge based on the fact that as a human you are blessed with the gift of comprehension from the moment you exit the womb....

You may not understand quantum physics before the professor explains the inner workings, but you are aware of the effects that surround you...etc..etc.

Also, the goal of proving your knowledge to your friends...will only prove that you know nothing...

"The wisest among us, know that for all of their knowledge, they know nothing"

Once you understand the great breadth of knowledge to be had in this world and this life....you'll begin to understand that it is impossible to know everything and therefore impossible to truly know anything...don't worry about your "friends". They don't know anything either....they sound as though they simply like to "peacock" and pretend as though they do...

If you truly feel the need to show your "wisdom"...when discussing a subject....listen, smirk a little...and realize that while they blather on pretending to be great intellectuals of note...you are absorbing the information they so freely give...and learn. You'll come out on top everytime...

A student is like a clay-dough. When he is purchased by the world, he is unformed. The teacher is the person which can form the clay into something. With his knowledge, widom, determination, and diligence, he formed a masterpiece. And a teacher can only deform it if he had done wrong.
