If it wasn't, then what would we need brains for? Don't we need brains to have out of the body experiences and near death experiences? Don't we need a brain to be decieved by our own superstition? AAAAAAAAHHH!

I say the word "soul" shouldn't have been invented. The word "being" is just enough.

There is no "soul" seperate from the body. All mind is brain.
It is a material entity. This was scientifically realised and proven by the reductive materialists in the 1960s.

"Reductive materialism (Identity theory) claims that there is no independent, autonomous level of phenomena in the world that would correspond to the level of conscious mental states. It also states that the level of conscious phenomena is identical with some level of purely neurological description. Conscious phenomena are nothing over and above the neural level, thus it can be reduced to that level.

Similar reductions have taken place in the history of science:

water = H2O
visible light = EM-radiation at certain wavelengths
pain = neural impulses in C-fibers
seeing red = synchronization of neural activity at 40Hz in V4 "

Basically if/when you see red, that corresponds 1/1 with 40h activity in the visual cortext. We can use 'intertheoretic reduction' and rethink our ordinary language in terms of scientific (brain based) language instead. Similar things happern in different areas of the brain when we think, feel, paln, empathise etc. The amydgala is for sadness ( "the tragic peom caused my amydgala to come into action") & happiness ("my amydgala was inhibited") etc etc etc.

It would be nice if it were so simple, but it is not.

Nothing happens to your mind when you die, so there is no dependence on the brain for the near death experience.

I think that you may be confusing mind with brain. Your brain is an amazing organ it controls our muscles, respiration, pulmonary function and a host of other lesser known functions, but it does not think.

Thought is a function of mind that exists independent of anything physical. What appears to be the brain thinking in brain function imaging and other brain measuring attempts is only blood flow being measured to the part of the brain that acts as an interface between the mind and the body. This is the secondary function of the brain after regulating bodily functions. It acts as the interface, or the mind body connection.

Without it there would be no way for the nonphysical mind to exert any control over the physical body.
It is interesting that science has done its best to overlook this fact for so long. The silly idea that thought is some magical function of some mysterious electrochemical reaction is so vague as to be hilarious. There are several ways to disprove this theory beyond any shadow of a doubt.

Being nonphysical in source your mind is in no way effected by the death of the body and loss of the mind body interface, or brain.

Love and blessings.

we are beings made in the image of THE SUPREME BEING. we have three parts the soul, the spirit and the physical body. the body is just a shell in which the soul and spirit are encased in during their existance on this plane of existance. upon death the physical body releases the soul and spirit to go on to other dimensions of existance carrying with them the information gathered on this plane. naturally the physical body returns to the earth from which it came as it has performed it's function and is no longer useful.

i know people defines soul with different meaning.

the one that they are referring to the word soul isn't a matter. it is the "will to live" of a living entity.
a body or brain can't functionif it looses its soul.
its like you are presently alive because you believe in something, it doesn't matter if its right or wrong to others, it keeps you alive. and you hope. that's what others called faith.

Spirit is the subconscious thinking of the brain.

Your soul is what you are given by God so you can being a being, a living and breathing being. You soul is what is purified or defiled by your actions. Your soul is what will be judged for the actions of YOU as a being.

Brain can be read, SOUL can't be touched, but only felt- it has only existence, but no shape, col,or,flever or partiality or feelings- so- without feeling- we can't be in us- so brain is for that. i.e. we are- cause, brain is working; we willn't when it will stop. Then our soul will be free and it willbe a part of HIM- abolishing ME and all my existance.

we are a three part being:
we are a spirit
we have a soul which is our mind, will, and emotions.
we live in a flesh and blood body.

your spirit is the real you, not your body, not the realm of the soul.
