If I have to grow six plants for my bio project, five are set with variable [salinity of water] and one is the control, what is the range of the amount of salt I should add into 100mL of water? I am afraid that I would kill them all before the germination or my result comes out......=.=''' thanks a lot for your kind help......

if you have 6 plants (i assume they are 6 samples of the same plant), here is how i would set up the experiment for varying salinity to test its effect on seed germination

sample 1 control - no salt added (trace amounts)
sample 2 very low - add 0.1 g salt / 100 ml water
sample 3 low - add 0.5 g salt / 100 ml water
sample 4 medium - add 1.0 g salt / 100 ml water
sample 5 sea water - add 3.5 g salt / 100 ml water
sample 6 saturated - add as much as you can - this is theoretically 36 g / 100 ml water, but you might want to try and get something like 10-20 g/ml into solution

ecogeek makes some good points with the sea water and with the type of plant, different plants will be more or less affected by salinity.

this is a good general guideline for setting up your experiment, let me know if you need help modifying it

Unfortunately there is no quick and easy answer to your question because some plant species are more salt tolerant than others. I would suggest choosing a plant first, do a web search to find out if your plant is salt tolerant (if it is you would have to use higher salinity values to see an effect). As an extreme high and low I would use no higher than 35 ppt (or 3.5 g in 100 mL) because this is the salinity of sea water. At the low end a value less than 0.5ppt (0.05 g in 100 mL) because this is the salinity found in freshwater.
