Why not try going to a wine-tasting evening at one of your local wine shops? That's probably the best way to experience lots of different wines for a low price.
When trying wine, you only want a small amount in the glass so that you can see the colour when you hold it to the light. Take note of the scent. When you taste it, pay attention to the initial taste and whether it develops into a different after-taste.
Different wines suit different foods. Delicate tastes, such as plaice and other such fish require a very light fairly dry white wine. Other white meats, such as chicken, can stand a white with a stronger taste (heavier) wines. Red meat such as steak would want a full-bodied red wine. Cheese often merits a red wine. Remember, the stronger the taste, the stronger the wine taste can be.
Sweet wines (a.k.a. dessert wines) are served with desserts and are much much sweeter, ranging from light and refreshing to syrupy in taste. Similar guide in choosing a wine; vanilla would merit a light white, whereas dark chocolate would cope with a heavier wine. Sherry is a fortified wine also drank at the end of a meal.
Champagnes and sparkling whites have quite a crisp taste and are good to consume before the start of a meal to cleanse the palate.
My personal taste is for New World wines. Australian Shiraz for reds and South American whites. France produces some lovely light reds, but their exported white wines can be a little hit and miss for the beginner.
Whites (including Champagne) should be chilled before serving. Reds can (for the most part) be served at room temperature.

If you are just starting to try wine, start with a light white or blush wine. My favorite wine is made by the Olive Garden, Principato Rosato, their house wine. It is light and perfect for a starter wine. Cheers!

Are you serious? How old are you? Stick with milk...and when you're old enough add some Kahlua and Vodka for a nice stiff White Russian.
