Protestants regard the cross as a symbol of Christ, the difference being that the cross does not have a figurine on it to represent Jesus. This is because Protestants believe that Jesus has risen from death and respect this. While Catholics tend to respect that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

So yes, Protestants of certain denominations do make the cross across their chest before praying, but what they pray for is usually different.

I'm protestant.

We can do pretty much what we like in our devotional lives. There is no injunction against making the sign of the Cross while praying. I'm not sure it is used as a prayer, though. More like a physical meditation.

Peace.

Anyone can wear a cross many unbelievers wear one as jewellery.
The sign of the cross is an outward ritual.
It is the soul which has relationship with God from here we pray..
No one can call Jesus Christ Lord apart from God the Holy spirit.

i have and will continue to do so under certain conditions. the only qualification i set for myself is to do it with RESPECT. in my personal opinion one should never perform any RELIGIOUS RITUAL or CEREMONY in an insulting manner as one needs to respect the Belief Systems of others if they want theirs respected.

Sure! It's easy. Just remember this little routine. Spectacles, testicles; wallet; and watch. Simple eh? Catholics have been using this simple memory aid for centuries! Protestants can do all sorts of things, if they put their mind too it.
