Discovery is something which already exists in the universe and u r the one to find it. For eg. colombus discovered america..

On the other hand, invention is something new made by human beings.

Discoveries is when you find something tht exists in the universe which is not yet found before.

Invention is something tht is formed, made, invented.

Perhaps examples would help. You can discover a new star, but you can't invent it. You can invent a new dance, but you can't discover it.
