Oh yes. Look to why they first separated.

There already is a great deal of dissension between Sunni ahd Shi'ite(Shia) Muslims. Additionally, both sects are actively suppressing Sufi Muslims. Few people are aware Sufism still exists.

Part of the reason Iran assisted Hezbullah in Lebanon was to promote the Shia faction in Lebanon and suppress the Sunni and the majority Maronite Christians.

There would be a war between Sunni and Shia before the world became an Islamic State. More likely there would be competing Grand Caliphates before any worldwide conquest by Islam.

The world will not become an Islamic State.

The poster known as cherylyoung could probably provide the best answer of anyone I have seen on Yahoo Answers, if she runs across this question.

Edit: My apologies and kudos to Vijay. At least one other person on the board is aware of Sufism. I find it the most interesting.

Edit to betterlife: You are correct also. But do not forget that Arabic muslims are also actively involved in genocide in Central Africa to wipe out the dark muslims, notably in Darfur, Sudan. Officially muslims do not discriminate by skin color, but in practice they do, vigorously so, whenever they can.

War is despised by all faith and blood shedding is not permissible in Islam either between Muslims and the others Non believers (Christians and Jewish are not considered non believers but are considered ‘KITABEEN’ people of the Book), and JIHAD is only permissible in case of defence – that when you are attacked.
It’s mentioned in the holy Quran that killing of one person is like killing all people on this world, so in my opinion it’s not possible that Muslims will fight each other and even if they do then not on the name of Islam and they should not be called Muslims.
What the Muslims do may not be Islam or even Islamic as there is a huge difference between Islam and Muslims.
The Middle East (predominantly Muslim) were for centuries the only place were Muslims and the Middle Eastern oldest Christians and the Jewish living side by side in harmony till the time of the Crusaders ( Named by the Christian) who destroyed and killed many people and with that came the political game and divisions.
Its a politically motivated question and not a possibility and will never happen.

The wars will be the part of our lives until we all know and learn our own message. Christians attack communists to protect their way of life and now they are invading Muslim countries for the same reason. Sunnis Shiites will keep fighting until they come to the source Qur'an.

Yes...definetely...
What needs to be remembered is Islam was created for the desert tribes, the vagabonds, highway robbers, etc...To keep them in check and to reel them in.
That's why Islam is so out of place in liberal society, even though it's been re-interpreted and modified to 'fit-in'...But the irony in the guardians of Wahabi islam (the most hardline and intolerant) are the ones playing poker with the "Great Satan" , Bush...

If any religion took over the whole planet there'd still be trouble because people would still fight over their own beliefs. Its ironic really.
