What Paul is saying is that our body is the temple of God. Gone are the days that God dwelled in the terbanacle or synagogue built by His people in the wilderness. Now, He lives and dwells in us making us to become the carrier of God because of His Holy spirit that is residing in us. As such we must flee from anything(sin) that can make us defile the temple of God, i.e. our body.

The 'Temple of God' here refers to our bodies, which the Bible says is made in His image. So we have no right to defile it. ( it is 'defile' and not 'destroy').
