i'd go for a 37" hd plasma/lcd. i have a 42" plasma in a room of similar dimensions and it does me fine. but not all people like a large screen so i go for the judgement of solomon and opt for the 37" for the room described in the question

go to the store and sit back to where you will be sitting in your room and see what size you like the best. as for picture have the sales person show how to change the picture settings, and you adjust the sets to see which picture you like the best. stay with a name brand product and you should be fine.
