A big No!! That is called cramming and it does not help at all although most students do so with the hope that what they would learn would still be fresh in their minds.
But this is the point, you have about 24 hours out of which you would have to sleep, take short breaks from your books to refresh your mind when it is saturated...how many hours do you have left? About 18 hours.
Now in this 18 hours after reading through sometimes you'll have to work out some calculations, depending on the course, or even go over what ever you have learnt to make sure you understand all of them. And if you don't have specific areas to study then you'll have to know every topic!! Work your hands at past questions and quiz yourself along the line to test your understanding. All these within 18hours when the hour for the paper is drawing nearer and nearer. At this point you're getting all tensed up because suddenly you've realised you have under estimated the load of notes to study!!
See given the above scenario do you think that studing a day before the exam helps? When you want to have good grades and not just barely pass? I suggest at least a week to the paper so that on the exam day you may not even bother yourself with any serious revision, but you'll be confident enough to solve every question even those that seem above you, just because you are mentally able to think better.

Sure it will help -- some. This is called "massed practice" since you condense the time for studying into a compact period of time just before a significant event. Better to do "distributed practice" -- study every night a little bit, make sure you understand all concepts covered that day, etc. Then the night before the exam, all you need is an overall review.
P.S. You'll be much calmer too!!

Depends on the exam.
I always take exams last minute and do well. It is fresh in your mind.
However, if the exam requires mastery of a difficult subject or nitpicky questions, it is much more difficult. Most high school and undergraduate college classes can be prepared for the night before by a person of above average intelligence.

No becuse when teachers teach we could understand and go home revise what the teachers said and try to understand what they said.... u May get 1st rank. If u study 1 day before the exam u can secure good marks and u may pass the exam but cannot get good marks.

Yes it helps but it depends on the capacity of your brain and the level of difficulty of the exam. I remember one time i have a long exam in chemistry, i study a day before the exam and poof.... a 98%... our test is really difficult.

Nope, if u mean to start studying for the exam a day b4 !!....its utterly useless.
Always b prepared for ur exams b4 hand, instead of having a look on them for the first time a day b4.
