i tried searching for the answers but i havent found any. my problem is that i am currently in a nocturnal state. I dont like it at all because i usually sleep from 5-6 AM to 5-6 PM and its bugging me, i have been missing alot of stuff (im a heavy sleeper) and i dont know why im like this, i was on a good pattern, but i stayed up late one night, and i get stuck. I have nothing to do all day or night. I dont know i often fall asleep during the day when im on schedule. Its like im naturally pre disposed to being up at night. Currently its 6.10AM and im trying something different today, im not eating all day and try to stay up. that way i can go to bed and wake up in the morning, and hopefully get on a diurnal schedule. But i would really like some advice on what to do to get and stay in a good cycle.

(PS i am tired so bear with my horrible grammar thanks)

Here's the key: "I have nothing to do all day or night." That's the problem. You are sleeping too much, and not at the times you want to, out of sheer boredom. Many people become nocturnal when they do not have any contact with the daytime world of business and school and suchlike because it is quiet at night and you can be up, and then in the daytime you sleep to avoid the world that has not welcomed you.

Obviously, you need something to do. If a regular job is out of the question for whatever reason, what of a volunteer job? Or how about going to school and learning something to be a real job?

You should probably start by talking all this over with your doctor, but also get the doctor to recommend who you should contact for a social worker or suchlike to help you make some choices and get yourself something to do. Around here it would be something called "Family Services," but I don't know what it would be where you live.

wow!! There are really many answers.
First... do something during the day if you are able. Can you volunteer somewhere? If you are getting up in the morning at the same time and start a routine and have something worthwhile to do, then you can easily get back to a night time sleeping schedule. If you are stuck at home for some reason, then find something else that is only during the day that will keep you accountable to being there and awake and helping. You can volunteer your time on the phone doing something.
You can also check your eating and drinking habits to see if they are attributing to your nocturnal state. Do you drink alcohol in the evening? How about a big pot of coffee? Think about what you are doing just before it becomes evening and either stop doing it or switch it to in the morning.
Good luck...

Hey, being nocturnal is a good thing for it makes you spend less time in the sun, and we all know how bad skin cancer and wrinkles can be!

OK, so jokes aside, I suggest you talk to your doctor about it. There must be a reason why you can't sleep at night. It seems to me that you don't work (as in work OUTSIDE home), which is why you are able to sleep all day. I don't think there's really anything wrong with your schedule, if you are not having any real problem with it. After all, you do get your daily quotient of rest!

Try reading something boring at night. That should be able to put you to sleep at night. And, have your alarm clock ring in the morning and whether you've slept well or not, just get up and take a shower and go about your duties as normal. Do this for just 3 days.........I'm sure you'll get back to having a diurnal schedule soon.

Good Luck!

do something during the day...some sort of exercise, and no caffeine.
