there isn't one , this alcholic addiction, creeps up unawares .

When you find ,you cannot do without, another drink , that then is too late.

Once you are down this slippery slope ,
the next drink ,becomes the most important thing in your life .

And you have become an alcoholic.

No way out but, to totally stop drinking .
( and that is very hard to do )

Not everyone is effected, to the same degree. by alchohol

I'd say the moment they start thinking "I need a drink right now".
Saying "What a nice day, a cool drink would be nice now" is one thing, but actually reaching the stage where you must have a drink after work to calm you're nerves, or you cant enjoy a party without having a drink first is the first sign that you're on a downward slope.
You know you have a problem when you start needing drinks for trivial reasons i.e. "the bus journey is long and irritating, I need a drink to make it easier."
I'm a social drinker myself, and think there's nothing wrong with the odd festive tipple, but as soon as it becomes a regular thing, for now apparent reason you should take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask "Why?"

Only one person can decide if one is an alcoholic.them self.until that point I don,t believe there is much hope. You did not say if it was you,you were wondering about. But I hope so.Because the fact that you are beginning to think you might be an alcoholic can be the beginning of recovery from a devastating disease. If how ever it is some one else.you will never convince them.it is not your fault. it is the nature of the disease.go to an A A meeting. You may think,Its lame or what ever.BUT GO.That defining moment you are asking about. Is the moment you decide you are an alcoholic. It is also the moment of the beginning of hope of recovery. Please go.Would love to hear that you went Good luck.

Well, nobody e-mails you with the brealking news. Basically, when alcohol starts to interfere with your life in any form it has become a problem for you. You do not have to end up on the street to find out you have hit your own personal bottom.

The first time they have the opportunity for a drink and say to themselves, "I probably shouldn't do this right now", and they do it anyway. From that moment they've opened the pathway to the behaviour and it becomes easier with each succeeding opportunity to abandon themselves to alcohol.
