18 months of age is far too young to begin potty training in earnest. If you have a potty seat for him, just leave it out where he can get to it if he wants, but don't insist upon it. Trust me -- I have a 5 year old son -- he will go when he's ready. Don't worry! Honestly, intelligence and toilet training are not related. I once worked with a severely retarded boy who could not even follow simple routine commands like "sit down" or "come here," yet he was completely toilet trained at the age of 3. The reverse is also true. Don't force him and he will learn. I promise! :)

Stop worrying. 18 months is the very youngest a child could be when you start potty training them. Before that it is the parent who is trained to put the baby on the potty every 30-60 minutes. When they can walk to the potty, pull down their pants, use the potty, wipe and pull up their pants they are potty trained. I can't see them doing that any younger than 18-24 months. Can you? At this age all you can do is get them used to the potty. Let him sit on it with his clothes on or off. Which ever he wants. I wouldn't start putting any pressure on him until he was closer to 2 years old. Then just take it easy. Don't over pressure him, it only backfires. If he just doesn't seem to get it at all, wait a month and try again. If he shows any kind of interest or progress, keep at it. It can take months for some kids and some will still need pullups at night. Sometimes until 3-4 years is still perfectly normal. Good luck and enjoy him while he's little. They grow up too fast:)

18 months is way too young to be worried about potty-training yet. Boys generally take longer to potty train than girls, and the best time is when they begin showing interest in the potty. Other criteria that should be met before your toddler is ready to start training: be able to pull down and up pants without help, know what the feeling of wetness means, start telling you when they have to go, and staying dry for periods of time (such as during a nap). Most boys are trained between the ages of 3 and 4 years, because before this, their bodies are not able to control their urine flow. No need to be worried... relax and it will come!

Don't worry there isn't anything wrong let him be he is only 18 months. Potty training takes time and each child is different. My daughter just turned 3 and she is potty trained. It took me a whole year to get her to learn. If you really want to get him out of them diapers then get some normal underwear and put them on him so he can feel when he goes and keep giving him something to drink wait a little bit then sit him on the potty in front of the t.v.. That's how my daughter learned.

Honey honestly you are probably trying too early. My little girl is 3 1/2 and we just finished potty training. Be prepared they normally catch on to peeing in the potty rather quickly but pooping takes even longer. With a little boy it is better if a male takes him to the potty I have heard that kinda turning it into a game helps the little boys. For example throw a few cheerios in the potty and try to get him to hit them when he pees. But don't rush and don't punish it will happen when he learns his body functions. Just a lot of encouragement. It works.

my kids were both almost 3 when I finally got them potty trained! With my first, It took the new baby sitter telling her now that she had 3 kids to diaper that she was old enough to wear panties, for some reason, it worked. (the rewards, the singing potty etc. at our house did nothing for her!) for my youngest, we did everything again, but he really struggled to make it to the potty on time. He always seemed to want to wait to the last minute to go. Finally, we started making him go every hour even if he said he didn't have to go. This lasted a day or so, and he seemed to catch on that he couldn't wait until the last minute...then he was trained pretty fast after that.

The most effective way is to put him on the potty once every hour and reward him for using the potty with a small treat like an m&m, cheerio, or teddy graham.
Another trick you can do (if hes using the big potty) drop a cheerio in the toilet and ask him to try to sink it. Good Luck!

Dont worry about it. It will come to him sooner or later. Alot of children will go 2 years or more before they are potty trained.
