Because Jesus was a Jew and everything about his life is the fulfillment of the prophecy in the Old Testament. You can't even make sense of the New Testament without knowing what is contained in the old. Many of the things Jesus said are even direct quotes from the Old Testament.
Christianity is the fulfillment of the promises that Yahweh made in the Old Testament. You can't really see all of God's plans for us if you don't have the Old Testament.

Jer 8:8 -
The law of the Lord - The “Torah,” or written law, the possession of which made the priests and prophets so boastfully exclaim, “We are wise.”
Lo, certainly ... - Rather, Verily, lo! the lying pen “of the scribes” hath made it - the Law - into a lie. The mention of “scribes” in this place is a crucial point in the argument whether or not the Pentateuch or Torah is the old law-book of the Jews, or a fabrication which gradually grew up, but was not received as authoritative until after the return from the captivity. It is not until the time of Josiah 2Ch_34:13 that “scribes” are mentioned except as political officers; here, however, they are students of the Torah. The Torah must have existed in writing before there could have been an order of men whose special business it was to study it; and therefore to explain this verse by saying that perhaps the scribes were writers of false prophecies written in imitation of the true, is to lose the whole gist of the passage. What the scribes turned into a lie was that Law of which they had just boasted that they were the possessors. Moreover, the scribes undeniably became possessed of preponderating influence during the exile: and on the return from Babylon were powerful enough to prevent the restoration of the kingly office. That there should be along with the priests and Levites men who devoted themselves to the study of the written Law, and who in the time of Josiah had acquired such influence as to be recognized as a distinct class - is just what we should expect from the rapid progress of learning, which began with Elisha’s active management of the schools of the prophets, and culminated in the days of Hezekiah. Jeremiah’s whole argument depends upon the fact that there were in his days men who claimed to be “wise” or “learned” men because of their study of the Pentateuch, and is entirely inconsistent with the assumptions that Jeremiah wrote the book of Deuteronomy, and that Ezra wrote parts of Exodus and the whole of Leviticus.
2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
2Ti 3:17 so that the man of God may be perfected, being fully furnished for every good work.

you're misinterpreting the passage right here. even in the journey that your interpretation have been maximum appropriate, Christians could nonetheless not be required to maintain that regulation until they underwent circumcision, and Gentile Christians have been in no way required to attain this. Now, are there rules codified interior the prophets? No. are you able to break or fulfill some thing interior the prophets that may not interior the prophets? No. If Jesus got here to "fulfill" the "regulation and prophets" then what precisely did He do to end this? "The regulation on the time became the regulation of the previous testomony." No, the regulation in this context are the 1st 5 books of the previous testomony writings, and could additionally consult with the best purchase of the previous testomony writings. "tutor me a verse interior the Bible which says that it rather is okay to dismiss the guidelines of the previous testomony?" A loaded question. The previous testomony is likewise the previous covenant, and Gentile Christians in no way grew to become a criminal party to that covenant. additionally, that covenant ended; being replaced with the help of the recent covenant. Is the recent covenant not stable sufficient for you? .

i agree with brothermichael and chris c.
dont only just read part of the bible. the bible isnt just all about that verse.
Jesus has also certified the need for the old testament in other ways when He talked about the two new laws in the new testament and He said that all the laws of the prophets which refers to the ten commandments and other instructions that God gave like not to be "unequally yoked". without the old testament, how would you ever know what he is talking about?

the old testament is in the bible because it is the history and genealogy books, not to mention it contains the prophecy that was fulfilled by jesus. so without the old testament jesus coming to earth would just be another guy or a rabbi teaching jewish law. so there wouldn't be christians, we'd all still be jews!

Saint Augustine said the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New.
You must read and understand both and then they compliment each other. They go together.

The old test. sets the stage and explains: the new test fulfills the prophecies set in the old test and advances questions set in the old test by new example another form of fulfillment.. both are very much inter linked I could go on for ever but I don't really believe every thing I've read either..

In order for us to know who Jesus is, why he was sent here, who sent him, what his role was then, what it is now and what it will be in the future, we need to have an understanding of the OT. Jesus many times reffered to the OT in aiding the Jews to understand that the time has come for his arrivial and what his role is. If Jesus accepted the OT as being vital then who are we to question it?
