I say if you're casually swimming then eat supper then go swimming. Just pay attention to your body's cues. And make supper something light. But if you swim, eat, then go to bed, you aren't burning off the calories from supper and it stores as fat easier when you eat right before sleeping. The biggest thing is to just listen to your body's cues. If you get tired or feel weighed down while swimming, your dinner may have been too heavy, or you just may need a few breaks while swimming. Your biggest meal should be breakfast anyway, with dinner being your lightest meal.

Avoid having food (esp full meal) before a planned exercise. Give min of 1 hour break before the exercise. So, preferably, have your supper after your swim. I assume you would take your dinner between 6 - 7 pm? If not, you may want to take some food around that time to make sure that you have the necessary energy for the exercise.

8 PM is not a early supper. You need to eat earlier and have a healthy snack after your lesson.

Don't EVER swim right after you eat! It'll make you sick and slow you down!

I did this once when I was on a community swim team and it was right before a race and I couldn't do it! I got sick!

If you had more time before you went swimming to eat, say 2 1/2 or 3 hours, then you'd be okay to eat then.
