Nail biting is a common habit and one that's not easy to kick. However, following these steps may help you manage it and possibly quit altogether.
Steps:
1. Purchase a bitter-tasting formula made expressly to stop nail biting. Choose the worst-tasting solution you can find.
2. Wash hands every morning with soap and water and towel dry.
3. Apply a liberal amount of the solution to the nails, cuticles and surrounding skin.
4. Continue to reapply the solution throughout the day as it wears off.
5. Reapply the solution at bedtime. Make sure the bitter taste is always present on your nails.

Think what you do with your nails all day. You scrtatch your head, you scratch your butt. I hope that's disgusting already. If no, think - would you ever bite your fried's nails? Why or why not?
Just keep this sweet line in your mind every time you bite your nails. This is how I stopped. I didn't mean to be mean :-)

A trick to keep your fingernails clean while gardening might work. Take a bar of soap and dig your nails into it. When you bite your nails you'll get that nasty taste in your mouth. Afterwhile your mind will condition to this and you won't feel the urge to bite them.

You don't break habits. You replace one behavior with a new behavior. If biting your nails is helping you suppress your nerves, try putting something in its place. For example, take a deep breath or try other relaxation exercises, hum, listen to music, or tap your foot.

if you can't handle spicy food, try this one...
in your clear nail polish, or top coat, add two or three drops of hot sauce. shake it well. paint that on your nails. when you bite them, you will taste the hot sauce, and you will eventually stop biting your nails.
hope that helped!

Get a lovely manicure so that you wouldn't want to spoil them. Try to think of other things when you feel like doing this and find other ways to relieve your nervousness/tension i.e. humming a tune, taking a walk or talking to a friend.
