Friends with potential OR more than friends. It all depends on what he thinks. If you ask him straight out, it could ruin a beautiful friendship, SO I suggest you gently make comments or actions that gauge how he feels without being outright about it; just push the envelope slightly. Like, bring up the topic of relationships in general and see how he reacts. Or in the course of everyday life or conversation, be a bit more affectionate, like be a bit more touchy feely, but in a way that is casual and could still be friend-like and see how he reacts. Or you can bring up the topic jokingly, or ask if he thinks you're girlfriend material because 'Bob' said you're not, or whatever.
He could be shy....or he could just like you as a really good friend. It is hard to say. He's the only one who knows! If you can talk for hours about anything, then surely you can get up the courage to find out how he feels, whether that be carefully or obviously.
Good Luck!!!

The fact that he goes to church gives you some hope for a true relationship. But to tell you the truth, they are so unpredictable,it's sad. Every relationship has it's "honey-moon" stage, then when you least expect it,that's when he'll throw you off with some out of character bull crap. But don't let me damage your outlook,I've never had good luck but I think as long as he stays in church he'll most likely be a good man but all that other stuff you listed is just a bunch of stuff you have in common. That is sweet about him singing to you,and you better be in his top 8,better yet you and only you should have your own category.

ahh... but ask yourself what you do for him... sounds like he is both a friend and more than a friend with the potential to be much more (husband & father to your children one day perhaps) and whether you truly are soul mates will be tested when there is a crisis in either of your lives coz its when things are not so good in our lives that we know can tell who our true friends are and at the end of the day thats what really matters... those ties that bind us close to each other that make us happy and that bring out the best in us...

I am sorry but it is really hard to know that there is such a person. This can only be in the movies or novel. In real life this is almost perfect.
If what you say is true, well you are the most luckiest person on earth. Good luck

soul mates ... however, if you have to ask us instead of asking him, perhaps you are not as close as you think ... be upfront, there is no potential without taking some risk of rejection ... tell him what is on your mind ... openness and honesty is all you need
