My son is five years old. Suddenly on Saturday he obtained a fever of 103.3. I gave him tylenol. It only came down to 102.0, so i started alternating the Tylenol with Motrin. Since that time the lowest that it has been is 100.9, and it usually goes right back up within the four hour difference in meds to 101.2- 101.9. He's got complaints of his neck hurting when he turns it from side to side and abdominal pain. He has a very poor appetite, and Im pushing pedialyte as much as I can. No vommiting or diarrhea. Im wondering if I should take him to the ER, with the holiday tommorow the MD wont be in the office. Im nerveous about waiting three days with fever to see the MD. He has a hx of juvenille polyposis coli. (His bowels spontaniously make polyps) I dont think that there is any corelation. HELP!!!

Just so everyone knows this fever started on saturday, and I have kept it managable. I dont see myself as a bad parent, fevers are good things clensing the body of infection. As I said before it has stay in the 101 range. I am going to just take him to the er. Thank you to all of you who seemed genuinely concerned, and didnt accuse me of being a misfit parent.

Keep him cool bathe his head with a cold flannel but dont be tempted to give him ice baths or anything like that. Is Tylenol like Ibuprofen?? Give him something like that 4 hourly. It sounds like hes got some swollen glands I believe children can get them in there stomach areas. Keep checking for rashes and that hes not deteriating generally. Keep giving him plenty of sips of water. If his temp goes up to 104 or there are any syptoms to make suspect meningitis. Take him to ER

Holy crap, he's between 101 and 103? Take him to the ER immediately! I can't believe you waited this long already! And follow up with your regular doctor after the holiday, because the ER will only provide temporary relief, not in-depth care.

Usually such fever could also mean that chicken pox may be coming soon. Pls consult the doctor as soon as you can. In the mean time give cold showers, this will help the fever to stablise or lower the temperature.
Hope he has a speedy recovery

If you can't afford a docter, here's some advice. put your son in a very hot bathtub, but you have to put an ice cold cloth or icepack on his head and at the back of his neck. (this is very important. You can overheat his brain and this is very dangerous.) let him lie in the bath for 30min and then put him in a icecold bath for 10 min. The germs will die because of the temperature change. Good luck and remeber the icepack on his headand neck.!

The fever doesn't worry me, but the neck and abdmoinal pain do. I would either take him to the ER or an afterhours clinic. Get him seen. Better to be safe than sorry.

Sound like a viruse.Usually there should be a advise nurse available for you to call. But 103 is kind of high.Take him to the er,just to be on the safe side.Put his feet in the cold water, that will make him feel better.Good luck, good health.

If your tempature is over 102 you should go immediately to the ER as it is an early warning sign that something could be seriously wrong. Next time get him a doctor immediately.

Your are a very bad parent to wait so long and then still ask for advice on this site. You should have taken him to the docter on the first day already

I hope you are not serious and that this is just a stupid joke.

yes. the neck pain is probably malaise related to the fever and infection. the abdominal pain is probably peritonitis caused by a perforated polyp or vermiform appendix.. worst case : the neck pain is menningitis.. or encephalitis.. either way see a doc stat.
