For a guy to treat his woman like his equal partner, for a guy to be willing to be romantic and not get pissed if the woman us verbally affectionate, for the woman to not take advantage of a good man, she be willing to pay for some of the dates, especially of it was her idea. Respect, compassion, tactful honesty ( but also knowing when some things are better left unsaid), don't hit each other or swear at each other or name call each other. If you're that mad, then tell your partner you need space to cool off. Not take each other for granted. You do as much giving as much as you are taking. And don't pressure each other into sex. If one partner's not ready, than the other should be willing to wait or move on to someone else. But not being willing to wait means the relationship's being built on lust and not true love.
Having a proper way to communicate is one of the keys. Also, both partners being able to be faithful. Also, for both partners to accept each other's physical appearance, and for a guy to not expect for her or with for her to look like a model or someone who lives at Hugh Hefner's mansion, while a female should not expect her guy to look like that hot movie star, or wish he was built. Physical appearance do change, and if you really love someone, you accept their appearance. As long as they clean themselves, don't worry about it.
And it takes work, work, work. It takes TWO, no one can do the job of a relationship on their own.

It is never easy to sustain a relationship between bf and gf coz as times goes by they begin to know each other well. So both of them must try to spice up their relationship in order to improve and sustain the relationship

Respect towards eachother and others
Unconditional love between both parties
Resposibilities of both parties

Care and devotion towards eachother
Stand for eachothers' ground
Help eachother when in need
Appreciate eachother thoughts and point of views towards anything
Appreciate even the smallest things or present eacother is being given

Don't let things fall into routine! Being in a relationship for an extended amount of time implies that both parties know each other very well. This can be mundane if nothing new and exciting ever is presented. Also, it is the human condition that we become dis-interested with excessive repetition; recognize the qualities that created the romance in the first place and use them in new ways!
