Put VERY HOT compress on it for several minutes. Then take a clean needle and pop the blisters and give the cold sore a squeeze and wipe away ALL the clear liquid that comes out. (there might be a bit of blood, not much) Then use the hot compress several times over an evening. In the morning things will be better, honesty, I was used this method for years and have always had success.

For most kids, the sores go away on their own without any special treatment from a doctor. If you get a cold sore, try holding some ice wrapped in cloth on the sore. It also might help to eat a popsicle.
Sometimes, if the cold sores are making a kid sick, a doctor may prescribe a special medicine that fights the herpes simplex virus. Some kids may take acetaminophen or ibuprofen if their sores are painful.
While you're waiting for the cold sore to go away, wash your hands regularly and don't pick at it. You'll only get in the way of your body's natural healing process. Picking at a cold sore is also bad news because it's easy to spread the virus to other parts or your body, like your fingers or eyes. Worse yet, you might spread the virus to other people. No one will thank you for giving them a cold sore!

Hi Chris,
For future reference, the amino acid called L-Lysiene is what prevents cold sores. You can buy this in pill form at most pharmacies, and health food stores. It is found naturally in cottage cheese.
I don't know if it makes them heal any faster, but if you include cottage cheese in your diet, you won't get them in the first place... Good Luck....

If you catch the cold sore as it is coming out (before it is full blown - before the skin cracks) believe it or not Lemon juice works wonders - it soothes it and relieves the itchiness. There is also a prescription cream you can get from the doctor if you get them alot - that works wonders - If you get it on as soon as you feel one is going to erupt (before it is noticeable) this cream prevents them from appearing but I can't remember the name of it at this moment. If I remember - I will add details.

I cannot stress this enough: A B R E V A. Its pricey, but it works. When you first feel it coming on, buy it, and put it on. Then try not to mess with it much. If you pick at it, you'll end up with a big crater that takes a long time to heal.

I learned this in nursing. Alcohol , as in the rubbing alcohol kind, can be dabbed on over and over. It has a drying effect on the sore. Doesn't hurt unless it's got raw places on the sore.
