If he's already your 'boyfriend' and you haven't even held hands yet, there's something wrong. You start holding hands WAY before you're boyfriend and girlfriend. If you're under 13 however, nevermind the above. All you SHOULD be doing is holding hands if youre under 13.

You've got to be kidding, right? Holding hands? Why don't you ask about something that actually matters? Like how long before kissing? Or how long before a Home Run? Holding hands is nothing!

i waited for him to hold my hands. I think the ideal time is immediately once you "confirmed" your status with him. That is when you acknowledge each other as Bf and Gf.

like all things its when it feels right for you
holding hands is really easy to get going though to make a move is easy...
heres a few of my fav things...
when you cross the road grab his hand and say hold my hand when we cross the road "like how our mums used to do"
another 1 is if hes talking to someone just come up to him grab his hand and say can you come with me for a second "think of something to say before otherwise you will look pretty stupid"
theres a few its pretty easy but dont push yourself do it when it feels right

you shouldn't have to do anything until you feel comfortable! i ahve been with my bf for 6 months and i still don't like holding hands or showing public affection but i have done everything else!
