What is the best type of architect? One that charges by the hour, charges 15% of your total build and project manages it, or one that charges a flat fee? Also, if you selected flat fee as your answer, how much of a flat fee is reasonable (in your mind, not from the architects you know) to charge? 500 pounds, 1000 pounds, 5000 pounds, other.

This question has gone four days without an answer. Best advice is to choose an architect based on the type of building you plan to build. Some architects specialize in residential and others in retail, industrial, etc.. Whether or not you want them to oversee your building will probably depend on the complexity of the project. If you are building a fairly standard residential home, and have chosen a competent builder, chances are that you will not need an architect to manage or oversee it.
