Yahoo answers is about ...90% kids, trolls and flamers. You can't really expect otherwise, sadly.
As a footnote: I swear religious people camp in here to convert the "heathens". Its all part of their insignificant little day. Sad, huh?

As a self-proclaimed free thinker, I realize that being misunderstood and occaisionally ridiculed or made fun of comes with the territory. If you want to be easily understood and accpeted, your best bet is to be like those you want to understand or accept you. Thinking outside the box or from another's perspective requires mental effort that everyone isn't ready to give.
As for a belief in reality being spiritual, I think that reality isn't something that needs to be beleived in, you can know it. Your existence is certain. And I don't really use the word "spritual" because I don't assume that there is a spirit.

I think you need to define your terms.
Maybe you think of yourself as a "freethinker," when in actuality it is looseness of thought, of directnesss, and of truth. You have several questions here and use terms loosely, without specifics, and try to make things apply where they do not. People get tired of trying to figure out what you mean. It is your responsibility to convey meaning, not our responsibility to read minds.
This is what people make fun of, not because you are a "freethinker." You are not a freethinker simply because you cannot grasp the truth, or fail to investigate it or study it, or think outside of it.

Depends on your definition of "freethinker". Some of them are rather ludicrous with their silliness. So long as free thinking is done with logic based in reality, I'm all for it. Without free thinking, we'd still be living in caves.

Thats the problem of putting Religion together with Spirituality. For some they are related, for others they are far apart.
Given that Religions tend to be relatively rigid belief systems, they are not particularly interested in "free thinkers".

Well, reality in itself is somewhat controversial. One person thinks they know reality, another does too, and they clash. Some close-minded people resort to name-calling and the like instead of being mature and having an intelligent debate.

I don't know. I am very realistic but I am also a Christian. I don't know if it is very "spiritual" to be realistic. Isn't that kind of a contradiction in terms?
I would not harass of make fun of you however. i have seen only 3 of your questions but they seemed reasonably respectful. Perhaps you threaten the insecure. I know many people of all beliefs are insecure in their beliefs and cannot "manfully" face a challenge to them.

I don't think that a belief in reality is spiritual at all. It is merely sensible. But atheists and agnostics are routinely pilloried by the religious zealots, who, unable to think for themselves, prefer to throw polemics at others rather than strain their brains.

harassing freethinkers are not exactly harrassment. they're mere challenges to give evidence to your statement or prove your principle. giving in to them is either making one a fool or standing up to their challenge. now, if your principle and ideal don't show any logic, basis, facts or truth... then for your sake, don't tread on their ground if you can't state your defense. remember, a half-baked reason is not a good gauge as a means to argue on most anything.
now, a belief in reality is not exact of being spiritual. one must not use this as a weapon of being a so-called spiritual person. we don't need proof to prove our faith. faith, belief, sprungs from within inside us. it's what makes us whole. atheists believe that there is no god... that's theirs, respect it then. listening to their reason does not indicate they are correct in their assumption but their principles are real for them. and that is their gauge of their belief. why, does it make you any less a person if you believe in him as a person, respect him as a person but does not believe in his ideals? each of us have the right to claim our ideals, our beliefs, our faith... but it doesn't mean we don't have have the power to resist their insistence of following their principle. to each his own, right? the least is to respect his views and respect him as a person....
anyway, just stay off if you can't defend your ground....
