When you freak out you are giving him the attention he wants. He'll just continue yelling back if you freak out; kids are like that they like to see how far they can push you. Ignore him. I know it's hard but just ignore him. He will scream even more for a bit and even cry BUT YOU HAVE TO IGNORE HIM. Then, after he eventually quietens down make him hot chocolate or something to promote and reward his quietness. Also have a chat with him and establish house rules. Don't give him attention when he acts like this ONLY when he's good. Also stimulate his mind by reading, playing outside and spend some time with him. Everything will be okay.

I know a lot of people think that slapping a child constitutes child abuse (which I think is bogus) but sometimes it really is the only way. Next time he talks back to you, slap him. Discipline is hard but it might shock him enough to get him to stop and give you time to get your two-cents in. You're the mother, tell him that every time he mouths off to you, he will get punished. Keep it up and he'll get a real, old-fashioned spanking. Grounding him, or ignoring him is temporary and children nowadays are not scared by such tactics. Good old slap to the face stings and will teach him to remember that talking back is a no-no.

Every child has something that they value. Maybe its a bike, a skateboard, a computer, or gameboy or x-box, or maybe it's that they like to go outside and play basketball. Whatever it is, take it away every time they disrespect you and talk back. Your child must be able to count on with 100% accuracy that everytime he mouths off he will loose whatever it is he values. I guarantee if you are consistant he will eventually stop his bad behavior. It may take a while, 9 year olds will test you, I should know I have one who's 11. Stick with it, and he will eventually stop.

Does this little boy get spanking when he does something wrong?
A good old fahioned spanking.
It is not too late to start.
Put him over your lap
Pull his pants down [not his underwear]
And paddle him good with your hand - one spank for each year of age.
The put him in time out for nine minutes.
And if he utters a sound, just one, within those nine minutes, stat the clock over again.
If you have waited till this ageto start disiplining him, it will take some time and a lot of resilience on your part.
Be stubborn.
Be displined.
and for god's sake
be a PARENT!

When my two were young, I used the phrase"end of discussion". That meant that no more arguing or nothing more to say or they started loosing stuff like bikes, special toys, or television and stereo privileges. If they said or did anything after I said"end of discussion", I kept taking stuff away until they quit sassing or arguing.

The best way is to just keep taking something away that they really enjoy. Keep doing this and stand your ground don't give in to that little sh*t. If that doesn't work beat the piss outta them. Your the boss not the child!!! Make them respect you!!

A little trip to Slap City usually will do the trick. May take a few round trips for him/her to catch on.

Yeah. Putt's right. Or just use the belt. Seriously, if you don't discipline him now he's going to be the biggest douche when he's older. Demanding, spoiled and stupid. Just do something physical. All ages understand pain.
