We have no evidence that there were crosses on Calvary. The earliest copy of any written account of what happened was written about 150 years after the event was supposed to have occured. That's the equivalent of somebody writing down the account of the US civil war right now in 2006, without any living witnesses to talk to about it, and without any written account to go on. How accurate do you think that would be? Were ten cannons used at Bunker Hill or thirty, or were there ever any cannons at all?
What we do know is there are over 30,000 variatians between the copies of the gospels that have been made since then, so how many errors existed in all those handwritten copies made before the earliest one we have?
We also know that the there were numerous christian sects 150 years after the presumed crucifixion all with conflicting ideas about who Jesus was and what happened. The belief system that overwhelmed all others is the present one which decided which copies and quotes to use and made changes to reinforce their beliefs and refute the beliefs of other sects.. It amounts to the victor writing history, what the truth is we may never know.
An inconspicuous metaphor - strike 3 , you're out?

There is no inconspicuous metaphor for the three crosses. Jesus was not the only one crucified that day. He was crucified between two criminals one of which came to faith in Jesus before he died. (Luke 23:32ff) Jesus being crucified between two criminals was prophesied hundreds of years earlier by the prophet Isaiah. (Isaiah 53:12) No need for metaphors about the Trinity there are plenty of verses that teach the Tri-Unity of God plainly (1 John 5:7) Hope that helps. Have a nice day.
